Welcome to Ants Beer. I have been brewing beer on and off since 1996 when Trish gave me all the equipment needed to brew beer at home as a Christmas gift. I think the biggest gift that came from this was acquiring a taste for real beer and putting popular golden colored domestic beer behind me forever. If its not home brew, micro-brew or European beer, it doesnt have a place in my life. I would like to share with you some recipes and some labels I have used for home brewed beer. But first, lets talk about some of the better store bought beer. Let me begin by saying that I am in no way an expert in brewing or taste testing beer. I simply know what I like. Here are some of my favorite beers and a brief review of them; · Ramstein Wheat Beer - My favorite beer. Brewed at the HIGH POINT BREWING COMPANY, INC. in Butler, NJ, it comes in four flavors. Ramstein Blonde which is an amber colored, unfiltered wheat beer. It seems to vary slightly in flavor from time to time. It is always good, but sometimes not as good. Another one is Ramstein Classic, a very good tasting dark yet crispy beer. It is consistently good and is the one I prefer year round, except when Winter Wheat is in season. This is by far Ramsteins best brew! It is very heavy and has a wonderfully strong beer and alcohol flavor. My mouth waters just thinking about it. As the name implies, it is only brewed in the winter time and rightfully so. Its perfect for a cold winter night or day or both! It is the beer I most often try to simulate when I want to brew my own strong, dark beer. The fourth beer Ramstein puts out is Ramstein Kristall. It must be made in very limited quantities because I have not seen it in any stores and have never tried it. I guess Ill have to visit the brewery and buy it direct. (I can go there because it is only a five minute drive from home.) · Oktoberfest - Autumn is the best time of year because its Oktoberfest time! The market is flooded with Oktoberfest beer. This year, Hacker-Pschorr is my favorite Oktoberfest beer and this year it came around a little earlier than usual and at a slightly lower price. Another is Becks Oktoberfest. It is also one of my favorites, although last years brew wasnt that good and I havent tried it yet this year. · Samuel Adams - I have tried most of their beers (except light beer) and have enjoyed every one of them. Samuel Adams is a remarkably delicious beer! It is available almost everywhere and goes great with burgers and fries or steaks. Its great to have around at the backyard barbeques. Of course it goes great all by itself too! · Pilsner Urquell This is one of the few golden colored beers that I like. In fact, I like it a lot! Pilsner Urquell is brewed in the Czech Republic. My brother first brought this beer to my attention. He used to drink it while stationed there in the Army. It has a crisp thirst-quenching and very hoppy flavor. They claim to be the first Golden beer in the world, created in 1842. They certainly must be doing something right because they give golden beers a good name. · Dogfish Head Dogfish head is fairly new to me. It was recommended by a fellow beer drinker that I try their 60 Minute IPA. It was one of the most impressive beers I have ever had! The incredibly hoppy flavor blew my socks off! I would buy it almost exclusively if it werent for the high price, nearly $8.00 for a six-pack. It is a real treat when I can work a case of this into my beer budget! · Corona Extra Corona is another good golden colored beer. Its good with a piece of lime stuffed in the bottle. Although its not on of my favorite beers, its a great summer beer. I always drink it when on a cruise in the Caribbean and then for a couple weeks after the cruise to keep the cruise feeling going. I guess its their TV commercials that make it so enjoyable. · Bass Ale Bass is a very tasty British beer and is quite reasonably priced. Its the kind of beer you want to keep in your stockpile. You never know when you will feel like a Bass. · Budweiser Well, at least they have good Super Bowl commercials.
